Seine cremige Textur und reife Frucht breitet sich im Mundraum aus. Der Gaumen wirkt stoffig mit gutem Körper, viel Fruchtextrakt und Volumen. Ausgeprägt und konzentriert klingt der Pavie Macquin aus mit seidiger Eleganz.

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarter Wasserrand. Etwas verhalten, dunkle Waldbeeren, dazu Lakritze, etwas Cassis, im Hintergrund etwas Dörrzwetschken. Komplex, extraktsüß, sehr feine Tannine, die wunderbar eingebettet sind, frisch und anhaltend, feiner Nougat, insgesamt noch etwas zurückhaltend, ein großes Versprechen für die Zukunft."

This is always an extremely masculine, dense, burly wine, and the 2010, which tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol (just slightly under that of the 2009), has a final blend of 80% Merlot and the rest virtually all Cabernet Franc, with just 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. Loads of crushed rock and chalkiness, along with licorice, black truffle, smoked game and black fruits dominate the aromatics and flavor. Backward, formidably endowed, full-bodied and almost atypically massive and huge, with gargantuan extraction, this is a wine for patient connoisseurs to forget about for close to a decade. 2005 Château Pavie Macquin zeigt sich in dichtem Granatrot. Ausladend entfalten sich Fruchtaromen von Cassis und Holunderbeeren mit mineralischer Note. Samtweich kommt die seidige Frucht mit Druck am Gaumen an. Kompakt ist die Struktur, mit einem Tanningerüst für lange Reife.

"2005 Vintage Tasted: Feb 2023

Flowers, cherries, chocolate, mint, licorice, smoke, and spice blend together to create the nose. Equally concentrated and fresh, with lift, salty, crushed stones, red plums, cherries, cocoa, and a touch of herbs, there is length, purity, and a solid oceanic influence on the palate that you find carries through to the energetic, creamy, cherry, chocolate and creme de cassis loaded finish. This is really showing well today. Drink from 2023-2035."

Inky bluish/purple in color, Pavie Macquin produced a prodigious effort from St.-Emilion in 2005. Its crushed, chalky rock minerality, massive body, and high tannin make for a wine to forget for another decade. Super-loaded, concentrated and powerful, this wine should turn out great, but patience will be required. The blackberry and cassis fruit are there in abundance, but so is a massive structure. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.
